What Are Permanents?

Permanents are cards that mount to your board and stay active indefinitely. Unlike executable cards that run as temporary threads, permanents provide persistent benefits.

Types of Permanents

Hardware (Rigs)

Rigs are your foundation — they provide HDD and RAM capacity. Without rigs, you can’t store cards or run threads.

Additional rigs include Polish Server, Dedicated Tor Node, Repurposed Mining Rig, Colocation Rack, and Icelandic Datacenter Node — each with unique capacity tradeoffs.

Rigs are acquired via Buy Order cards — executable threads that resolve into the rig permanent.

Software

Software permanents serve as infrastructure for advanced cards. They don’t provide capacity but enable powerful card tree mechanics.

Card Tree Constructs:

• Data Lake — enables Pattern Mining factory process (1,275 HDD)
• Large Language Model — enables Signal Generation factory process (272 HDD)
• Intrusion Framework — enables Surveillance Sweep factory process (1,275 HDD)
• Counterintelligence Mesh — enables Key Cracking factory process (7,650 HDD)

Utility Software:

• Crypto Wallet — links to Memecoin Central or Stablecoin Market (unique)
• Cloud Storage — frees 600 HDD capacity when mounted
• Reputation — used as an argument for Favor From Above

Malware

Malware permanents are injected into your game by adversaries or other players. They drain your HDD/RAM capacity and cannot be removed normally.

To remove malware: Use the Entropy Wipe spell (Data tree). It requires 2 Basic Data Shards and removes ALL malware permanents in one cast.

Link Slots

Rigs have link slots — positions where software permanents can be attached. Linking a software permanent to a rig is required for certain card interactions (e.g., linking Memecoin Central to Crypto Wallet for Margin Trading).

Unique Permanents

Cards tagged unique can only have one copy mounted at a time. Attempting to mount a second copy will fail. Currently unique cards:

• Crypto Wallet
• Memecoin Central
• Stablecoin Market

Tips

• Upgrade rigs early — Dan’s Laptop is extremely limited. Push for Data Center Rack ASAP
• Watch malware — if you notice your capacity shrinking, check for malware permanents and cast Entropy Wipe
• Plan your constructs — each card tree requires specific constructs. Decide your build path before investing HDD in constructs
