Three-Tier Escalation
The Ransomware Gang’s attack pool changes based on their attack count during the current awake cycle:
Tier 1: Probing (Attacks 0–2)
Light harassment. Manageable damage.
- Foreign Script (steal 500 money)
- Targeted Attack (destroy 1 software permanent)
- Malformed Packet (inject weak malware)
Tier 2: Extortion (Attacks 3–5)
Serious economic attacks.
- Banking Intrusion (x2 weight) — sets your money to 0
- Storage Compromise — sets target stamps to 0
Tier 3: Destruction (Attacks 6+)
Full assault with devastating spells.
- Banking Intrusion — economy wipe
- Buffer Overflow — destroys ALL software permanents
- System Breach — cancels all running threads

Kill Strategy
HP: 16 — requires 2 Level 3 spells (9+9=18 damage, 2 overkill)
The Ransomware Gang is a time-sensitive threat. Their escalation means:
- Kill them within their first 2 attacks (72h window) to avoid tier 2
- If you can’t kill quickly, whitelist with Favor From Above
- Never let them reach tier 3 — Buffer Overflow + Banking Intrusion is devastating
Defense
- Keep money low — they wake at 80K money. Spend money quickly on upgrades
- Invest in attack capability — 2 Level 3 spells can kill them before tier 2
- Banking Intrusion defense — spend money quickly to minimize losses. Note: Storage Compromise at tier 2 can wipe stamps too
- Entropy Wipe ready — Malformed Packet at tier 1 is manageable but don’t let malware stack
Tips
- The Ransomware Gang resets attack count when they sleep, so killing them resets the escalation
- They target the player with the most money — if you’re not the richest by money, you’re safe
- At 36h attack interval, you have ~108h before tier 2 kicks in (3 attacks × 36h)
- Kill rewards (20 stamps + 8,000 money) make them profitable to farm if you have Level 3 spells ready
